Light Painting 2 - Painting object with torch light

DPS Assignment:  "Lighting: One Light (Artificial)"
There are so many ways to create/use artificial lighting and this round I am trying to paint an object in a dark by using a torch light.

How I did the following shots:

• Settings: A table with black surface, a cheap torch light, tripod, remote control for the camera and the object(s) 
• Camera settings: Bulb mode, f-stop 22 or higher, ISO-100, Exp 0 or lower... I've even tried Exp -3 and it worked well
• Execution: Start shooting a long exposure by triggering the camera with the remote control. Paint around the object and shine longer at the places you wish to focus on or be brighter.
• Try a few shots, shine/wave torch light from different angles (top, bottom, side etc) and try different time. You will be surprised! :)

Note: Both pictures are SOOC

You can even see a little light painting (little swirl) on the top right of the bottle.
Maybe that's what how I was waving the torch light that way at that time
This is 13 seconds long exposure with more emphasis in front

Firework

Difficult to focus and zoom where everything was happening so quickly

Light Painting (With remote control)

With a remote control... light painting has been easier and so fun!
The best thing is I can now read my own handwriting. :)

Note to myself: Next time,  press OFF button to stop drawing... and press ON in a new position to continue to draw. This will solve the "overlapping lines" problem.

Psychedelic water drops

In my dark computer room... I've discovered something fun.
For this round of macro, long exposure time and bulb practice, I have my ISO set to 100, f-stop for f/11 for most of the pictures although I have f-stop value like f/22 or even f/32 (didn't look good at f/32). As for shutter opened time, the best effect I got is around 5-6 sec (slightly dark but pretty mysterious feeling). As for 8 to 10 seconds, the pictures got brighter and most of the time a little blurry due to I have to hold on to the button (I know... I need a remote control.... still waiting for it to arrive).

Very interesting results! Totally caught me by surprise! :)

FYI, I didn't taste any yellow mushroom... or smoked any pot before I took these pictures.

Just love the colors!

This one caught me by surprise... was supposed to take a real close-up but ended up with a FLATTEN water drop effect... Absolutely fabulous!

Love how one single light source being reflected in many directions and colors! Gorgeous!

Oooo... this one looks like lots of UFOs... :)  Love the reflections!

Setting: A DVD disc, a plate, water spray, strong light bulb ( I was only using my table lamp with a 60W light bulb)

Light Painting

More "Bulb" tricks again? You bet!
Light painting is very fun although we are no artists and not sure how fast/slow to wave around the torch light.
This is one of the cool light paintings I like.

What we've learnt so far:

1. We are NOT artistic at all.
2. I waved faster, cover smaller area and the showed a big clump of light.
3. Magnus waved slower, covered bigger area and the pattern seemed to be quite cool.
4. With longer exposure time, you can draw more but picture becomes brighter.

Tonight I've tried out the Bulb (B) function.
For darker background, ISO 100 seems to work best, but I am still trying to figure out how to calculate the Bulb value.
